Let's start with the question, "What is Niche Marketing?"

Niche Marketing is a specific form of marketing, usually done mostly online. In a nutshell, it is the art and science of finding a subcategory of something that people are desperate to buy and delivering it to that segment of the population that wants it.

Sound simple? Yes and no. If you think you can find a niche and make tons of money on it, you can. But if you think it is a get rich quick scheme, you would be way off base. There are many people out there who promote get rich quick schemes. While we all want to make money as quickly as possible, we need to be realistic about the amount of work involved.

Niche marketing requires work and the development of certain skills. Just about anyone can do it, but they need to learn the basics first and practice them. There are many resources online to learn about these skill sets. This blog is one of them. I will be discussing some of the others that are worthwhile, both free and paid.

Niche Marketing can be done very effectively with no money (we call this Bum Marketing, as coined by Travis Sago, bum marketer extraordinaire) and can also be done on large scales with huge advertising budgets. Obviously, for those just starting out, the bum marketing methods will be desirable, or possibly some low cost additions to that, such as some basic tools and software and educational tools and services.

Save all the money you can on advertising niche markets because you can get almost the same amount of promotion for free as you can if you pay someone, and the quality will be better as you have full control over it. With that being said, spare no expense on your education, as that will produce skills and attributes that will reap huge rewards down the road. Just make sure that you are getting an education and not paying someone to promote themselves.

Many people make the mistake of joining every affiliate program that come down the pike. This not only dilutes your effectiveness as a marketer, but most programs that are easy to join and set up do not have any long term possibilities, nor do they allow you to be in a position of creating your own destiny.

The first thing you want o do is find a hungry market. Then you want to determine what they need and more importantly why they want it. Then (and only then) can you find a product and promote to them to satisfy that need, whether it is a physical product sold on TV, an item sold through a network marketing format, a service, or even a digital product such as an e-book.

You will find there are plenty of people who will help you, including me (which is why UI created this site). They will not give away their keywords or niches, but they will teach you how to find and develop your own, which in the long run is much more beneficial to you.
